University of Tasmania (UTAS) is offering Tasmanian International Scholarships (TIS) for international students. These scholarships are available to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate coursework degrees offered by the University.

Tasmanian International Scholarship (TIS) provides commencing international students with a 25% reduction in registered tuition fees for the duration of their course (provided satisfactory grades are maintained).

The Tasmania Scholarships program was established by the University of Tasmania in 1994. The first scholarships were awarded to students in 1995, within a program encompassing undergraduate, honors, research and international scholarships.

If applicant’s previous study has not been in an English speaking environment, they are required to demonstrate their ability by showing the results of an approved test.

Course Level: Scholarships are available to undertake undergraduate and postgraduate coursework degrees offered by the University of Tasmania (UTAS).

Entrance Requirement: Generally applicants will require the equivalent of an overall B+ average (with the exception of some courses), to be eligible for TIS. Please note: As qualifications and grading scales can vary significantly from country to country, eligibility will be assessed by an Admissions Officer.

English Language Requirement: If applicant’s previous study has not been in an English speaking environment, they are required to demonstrate their ability by showing the results of an approved test.

The University of London is offering MA in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies, the Sadako Ogata Scholarship for students beginning their studies in March. Applicants from lower and middle-income countries are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

These scholarships seek to support outstanding students who are nationals of, and residing in, low- and middle-income countries and who otherwise might not be able to gain access to the MA in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies due to financial circumstances.

The University of London is a collegiate research university located in London, England, consisting of 17 constituent colleges, nine research institutes and a number of central bodies.

An undergraduate degree (e.g. bachelor) which is considered at least comparable to a UK upper second class honors degree, in a social science related subject, from an institution acceptable to the University.

Course Level: Scholarship is available for pursuing MA degree program at the University of London.

Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies.

Scholarship Award: The Sadako Ogata scholarship covers the ‘whole fee’ for the program, comprising two Core Module fees, four Elective Module fees, and the two Dissertation modules fees. For the 2016-17 year, this is equivalent to fees of £7,720 over the lifetime of the award.

The scholarship does not cover examination center costs and any other costs not directly payable to the University (such as the purchase of additional materials or electronic equipment), resubmission fees, payment of further elective modules if the student decides to transfer, or any other fees not covered above. Applicants must ensure they can cover such costs from other financial sources.

If no suitable candidates are identified in a single year, then the award may be held over until the following year.

Scholarship can be taken in the UK

Eligibility: Applicants for the Sadako Ogata Scholarship must:

  • Have received an offer of registration for the MA in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies for the relevant upcoming academic session; and
  • be a national of and residing in a low or lower middle income country
  • demonstrate outstanding academic merit or potential in the field of study, evidenced particularly by past achievements; and
  • be unable to take up the offer of a place on the MA in Refugee Protection and Forced Migration Studies due to financial circumstances.

Tests of English proficiency from other providers will be considered on an individual basis.

Where an applicant does not meet the prescribed English language proficiency requirements but believes that they can demonstrate the requisite proficiency for admission the University may, at its discretion, consider the application.

Scholarship Award: An MTN Scholarship is awarded for one or maximum of two years and covers the full cost of tuition and registration fees at UCT GSB, as set by the business school. For example an economy-class travel allowance for Scholars travelling from their home country to the business school at the beginning and back home at the end of their degree programme, a stipend, or to attend additional conferences or workshops, or conduct fieldwork and pilots.

Eligibility: To be considered for an MTN Scholarship you must:

The Machel-Mandela Fellows programme aims to be the most prestigious of its kind in Africa. It helps sharpen the Brenthurst Foundation’s focus on Africa’s burgeoning youth population and helps nurture Africa’s future leaders.

The Brenthurst Foundation is on the frontier of new ideas and innovative actions for strengthening Africa’s economic performance. ARISE Scholarships for Masters and Doctoral Students in Africa, 2016

Africa Regional International Staff/Student Exchange (ARISE) is inviting applications from African nationals for scholarships. Scholarships are available for the students who are registered for a full degree masters or doctoral program at a home African university to spend time (minimum 10 months) at one of the ARISE partner institutions .

Africa Regional International Staff/Student Exchange (ARISE) is a project of the Intra-ACP academic mobility scheme promotes cooperation between higher education institutions (HEIs) and supports mobility in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific (ACP) regions.

The program aims to increase access to quality education that will encourage and enable ACP students to undertake postgraduate studies, and to promote student retention in the region along with mobility of staff (academic and administrative) while increasing the competitiveness and attractiveness of the institutions themselves.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for masters or doctoral students to spend time (minimum 10 months) at one of the ARISE partner institution (Addis Ababa University, University of Rwanda, University of Cape Town, University of Ghana, Makerere University and University of Nairobi)

Full degree scholarships for Masters students: Students who meet the criteria will be able to apply for full degree scholarship for completion of a Masters degree at one of the Higher Education Institutions in the consortium.

Sandwich Ph.D. mobilities: Students who are already enrolled for a Ph.D. at their home institution will be able to apply for an 11 month period of supervised research at a host university that is one of the Higher Education Institutions in the consortium.

Academic and administrative staff mobilities: Staff employed by the Higher Education Institutions of the consortium will be able to apply for short term mobility opportunities which could include benchmarking exercises, sabbatical research periods, guest lecturing, curriculum development, knowledge and resource sharing trips etc. on the basis that both institutions support the trip.

Exchange opportunities (Masters and PhD): Students registered as full-degree students at one of the partner universities comprising the consortium, spend a short period (10 months and less) at one of the other institutions in the consortium and return to their home institution after the exchange period to complete their degree at the home institution. Exchange students will spend their period at the host university as researchers mainly, being engaged in literature reviews, specialized theoretical or methodological training, or field studies and they will closely co-operate with their African (host) and African (home) supervisors.

Entrance Requirement: As guidance, students should have a 2.1 (3.5 GPA) or its equivalent. If they were not awarded a minimum of 2.1 they may still be considered provided they have a very strong employment record demonstrating a high degree of responsibility.

Test Requirement: University looks for a high level of quantitative and analytical skills evidenced in the GMAT/GRE results.

GMAT:  While they don’t ask for a minimum score, they recommend that candidates apply with a GMAT score of 650 or above. Our current class has an average GMAT score of around 690.

KIIT University India Scholarship Program (KUISP) is applicable only for international applicants. Scholarships are available for undergraduate or masters degree programme for all courses.

The aim of the scholarship is to enable and encourage academically able students from any nationality.

Birkbeck, University of London is inviting applications for Patrick McAuslan LLM Scholarship in International Economic Law (Intensive – Justice and Development pathway) in the UK.

Applicants from East African (Burundi, Comoros, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Rwanda, Somalia, Somaliland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe) countries can apply for the scholarship.

Birkbeck, University of London, is a public research university located in Bloomsbury, London, United Kingdom. Established in 1823, Birkbeck specialises in evening higher education and is a constituent college of the federal University of London.

Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Course Level: Scholarship is available for pursuing LLM programme at the Birkbeck, University of London.

Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded for LLM International Economic Law (Intensive – Justice and Development pathway).

Scholarship Award: The scholarship covers tuition fees of £14,775 for one full-time international student of the LLM in International Economic Law (Intensive – Justice and Development pathway). Additionally, it includes a monthly contribution towards living costs in London for the duration of the course from March to July (Approx. £ 5000). The total value of the award is worth GBP 20,000.

Scholarship can be taken in the UK

Eligibility: 

  • Applicants have successfully applied for the LLM International Economic Law (intensive – Justice and Development pathway; there is a separate application process for the LLM at the link above). They need to have received at least a conditional offer for this LLM programme, and
  • Applicants are from one of the following East African countries: Burundi, Comoros, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Rwanda, Somalia, Somaliland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
  • The competition is open to new students only.

Nationality: Applicants from East African countries can apply.
