Kyushu University is inviting applicants for Kyushu University Friendship Scholarships Scheme. Scholarships are open to students from abroad for pursuing undergraduate and graduate programme.

By offering them a chance to study abroad at Kyushu University, the scheme aims to foster the nation’s future leaders, maintain good relations with Kyushu University, and play the role of point of contact to cultivate joint research and bring in external capital depending on their course or career after graduation.

Kyushu University, abbreviated to Kyudai, is a Japanese public university located in Fukuoka, Kyushu. It is the 4th oldest university in Japan and one of the former Imperial Universities.

Scholarship Description:

  • Application Deadline: May 31, 2018
  • Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing undergraduate and graduate programme.
  • Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to study the subjects offered by the university.
  • Scholarship Award:
    (1) Scholarship: Both your period of enrollment at Kyushu University and the length of stay in Japan must be more than 16 days of the month concerned in order to receive a monthly stipend.
    Monthly Stipend: 80,000 JPY
    Support Period 1st Term: From April, 2018 to September, 2018 (Up to 6 months) 2nd Term: From October, 2018 to March, 2019 (Up to 6 months)
    (2) Travel Expenses: Travel expenses up to the amount below will be covered (actual cost). The details are as follows; Asia(*): Up to 50,000 JPY Outside of Asia: 100,000 JPY *The area designated by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
    Round-trip economy air ticket via the most direct route between Fukuoka and the location of the recipient’s university. Air tickets and transportation fees in the recipient’s home country will not apply unless receipts and other proof of purchase are made.
    Incidental Expenses only expenses incurred through visas, travel taxes, and airport taxes will be borne by Kyushu University. In the event that receipts and proof of payment are not submitted, these expenses will not be covered.

  • Eligible Countries: International students are eligible to apply.

    3. Students who can be accepted by undergraduate school or graduate school of Kyushu University as Special Auditors, Special Research Students or Double Degree Program students.
    4. Students who are considering to study as degree-seeking students at Kyushu University in the future. (Only for Special Auditors andSpecial Research Students)
    5. Students who have been successfully accepted or are under the procedure of acceptance at Kyushu University as of the application for this scholarship.
    6. Students who can pay the tuition fee in case they come from the universities which doesn’t have agreement of student exchange with Kyushu University.
    7. Students who have applied for student exchange program in case they come from the universities which have the agreement of student exchange with Kyushu University. (In principle)
    8. Students whose terms of study is more than 3 months and status of Visa is “College Students” in Japan.

How to Apply:

  • Determine an academic supervisor from who you wish to have instruction during your study term at Kyushu University
  • Contact the potential academic supervisor by e-mail or other ways, and obtain his/her unofficial consent.
  • Prepare application documents for applicants mentioned above, and send them to the academic supervisor by post.
  • The academic supervisor prepares” application documents for academic supervisor”, He/she will submit them along with “application documents for applicants” to International Student Exchange Division through the student section of the department concerned by the deadline
  • Applications for the Friendship Scholarship will be examined by the Kyushu University International Exchange Executive Committee and the final decision of the selection will be made by the President of Kyushu University.
  • The International Student Exchange Division will notify the student section of the department concerned and the prospective academic supervisor of the result in writing.
  • The prospective academic supervisor or the student section will notify the applicant of the result of the application.

Japanese Government MEXT Scholarships for Foreign Undergraduate Students

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities as Undergraduate Students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program.

Japanese Government Scholarship aim is to foster human resources who will become bridges of friendship between your country and Japan through study in Japan and who will contribute to the development of both countries and the wider world.

Applicants must either have completed 12 years of regular school education or have graduated from a school equivalent to an upper secondary school in Japan.

Scholarship Description:

  • Application Deadline: The deadline of the applications differs according to the country. Please contact with Japanese embassy or consulate general in your country.
  • Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing an undergraduate degree at Japanese universities.
  • Study Subject: Those who wish to study in Japan as an undergraduate student must choose a field of study (major) from (1) or (2) below. Applicants may enter a first, second, and third choice

    • Note: A student who intends to major in Natural Sciences and would like to choose more than one major is required to choose and select first-, second-, and third-choice subjects from the subjects in parentheses from within the same course (i.e. Natural Sciences A, B or C). However, a student who selects Course C as his/her first choice may choose his/her second-choice subjects from Course B or C and thirdchoice subject from Course B as Course C offers only two subjects.
  • Scholarship Award: Scholarship includes:
    • Allowance: 117,000 yen per month. The scholarship is cancelled in principle if the recipient is absent from the university or preparatory Japanese-teaching institution for an extended period. In case that the recipient research in a designated region, 2,000 or 3,000 yen per month will be added. The monetary amount each year may be subject to change due to budgetary reasons. The scholarship will be also cancelled in principle in the following situations. If the recipient has been receiving the scholarship despite his/her falling under any of the following situations, the recipient will be ordered to return the amount of scholarship that he/she received during the period wherein he/she was involved with any of the following situations: The recipient is determined to have made a false statement on his/her application; The recipient violates any article of his/her pledge to MEXT; The recipient violates any Japanese laws and is sentenced to imprisonment with or without work for life or for a period of exceeding 1 year;  The recipient is subject to disciplinary action by the university, including expulsion(The scholarship payment may be stopped during the period up until punishment is decided by the university, etc.);  It has been determined that it will be impossible for the recipient to complete the course within the standard course period because of poor academic grades or suspension or leave of absence;  The recipient’s residence status has changed to one other than “College Student”? The recipient has received a scholarship from another institution (excluding those specified for research expenditures);  The recipient has proceeded to a higher level of education without receiving approval for an extension of the period of the scholarship.
    • Tuition and Other Fees: Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation, and tuition at universities will be paid by MEXT.
    • Travelling CostsTransportation to Japan: In principle, MEXT stipulates the travel schedule and route, and provides an economy-class airline ticket for the flight from the international airport closest to the recipient’s residence (in principle, the country of nationality) to Narita International Airport or to any other international airport on the normal route to the accepting university. The grantee shall bear at his/her own expense all costs related to domestic travel from the grantee’s residence to the nearest international airport, airport taxes, airport usage fees, special taxes necessary for travel, travel expenses within Japan (including airline transit costs), travel insurance expenses, etc. The grantee shall also bear at his/her own expense travel and lodging costs incurred in a third country if the grantee must travel to a third country before coming to Japan for visa purposes because there are no Japanese diplomatic missions in his/her country. In principle, MEXT will not provide the airline ticket in cases when the grantee arrives in Japan from a country other than the country of nationality because the grantee had moved to the country before the arrival in Japan. Transportation from Japan: Grantees shall graduate the accepting university and return to the home country by the end of the final month of the period of scholarship (Section 4 above) designated by MEXT. Based on the Application by the grantee, MEXT, in principle, shall provide an economy-class airline ticket from Narita International Airport or the international airport used for the normal route to and from the accepting university to the international airport (in principle, in the country of nationality) nearest to the returning recipient’s residence. The grantee shall bear at his/her own expense all costs related to travel from the grantee’s residence to the nearest international airport, airport taxes, airport usage fees, special taxes necessary for travel, travel expenses within the country of nationality (including airline transit costs), travel insurance expenses, etc.
    • Note 1: Should the grantee return to the home country before the end of the period of scholarship due to personal circumstances, or reasons 8. (1) ?~? above, MEXT will not pay for the return travel expenses
    • Note 2: If a grantee continues to stay in Japan after the scholarship period has ended, he/she will not be paid travel expenses to return to the home country for a temporary return.

    • Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan. An applicant who has Japanese nationality at the time of application is not eligible. However, persons with dual nationality who hold Japanese nationality and whose place of residence at the time of application is outside of Japan are eligible to apply as long as they choose the nationality of the foreign country and give up their Japanese nationality by the date of their arrival in Japan. Applicant screening will be conducted at the Japanese diplomatic mission in the applicant’s country.
    • Academic Background: Applicants must either have completed 12 years of regular school education or have graduated from a school equivalent to an upper secondary school in Japan. (Applicants who will meet the above qualifications by March 2018 are eligible. Includes those wishing to enroll for direct placement in the fall term who are expected to graduate by the end of August 2017.) Please also note that those who change their visa status to one other than College Student after arrival in Japan will lose their qualification to be Japanese Government Scholarship recipients from the date when their visa status changes.
    • Others: While the applicant is studying in Japan, he/she shall contribute to mutual understanding between Japan and the home country by participating in activities at schools and communities with the aim of contributing to the internationalization of Japan. The applicant shall make efforts to promote relations between the home country and Japan by maintaining close relations with the university attended after graduation, cooperating with the conducting of surveys and questionnaires after the return home, and cooperating with all relevant projects and events conducted by Japanese diplomatic missions in the applicant’s home country.

Joint Japan World Bank Fully Funded Graduate Scholarship Program, 2018

Applications are invited for Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarships Program (JJ/WBGSP) from the nationals of developing countries. Scholarships are awarded for studying only at a master program that has been granted “preferred” status by the JJ/WBG Scholarship Program.

The program has awarded over 5000 scholarships selected from over 65,000 applicants, and disbursed over US$200 million in funding from the Japanese government.

Established in 1987 with funding from the Government of Japan, the Joint Japan / World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) has helped create an international community of development professionals through the Program’s financing of graduate and post-graduate studies.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent university degree) earned before 2013, be under 45 years old on the application deadline date, and have at least 3 years of recent development-related experience since earning a Bachelor’s degree. Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Scholarship Description:

  • Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing masters degree at Preferred University.
  • Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded for studying only at a master program that has been granted “preferred” status by the JJ/WBG Scholarship Program.
  • Scholarship Award: The JJ/WBGSP scholarship provides the recipient with the following benefits:
    • Economy class air travel between your home country and the host university at the start of your study program and immediately following the end of the scholarship period. In addition to the two-way air travel, scholars will receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip;
    • Tuition for your graduate program and the cost of basic medical insurance usually obtained through the university.
    • A monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including books. The amount of the allowance varies depending on the host country.

    Please note all JJ/WBGSP scholarships cover the duration of the graduate program or two years, whichever is less.

    The JJ/WBGSP scholarship does not cover:

    • VISA application(s) costs
    • Expenses to bring and/or support a scholar’s family members;
    • Extra-curricular courses or training;
    • Language training not provided by the graduate program;
    • Additional travel during the course of the study program;
    • Expenses related to research, supplementary educational materials, field trips, participation in workshops/seminars, or internships; or
    • Educational equipment such as computers.

    Note: The JJ/WBGSP scholarship may only supplement, and does not duplicate, any other source of financial support/fellowship you might have. If selected as a finalist or if you are awarded a scholarship, you must inform the JJ/WBGSP if you have other sources of scholarship funds. The JJ/WBGSP stipend may be withdrawn completely or partially if during the scholarship period the Program has evidence of additional sources of support.

  • Traveling Costs:
    1) Transportation to Japan: Each grantee will be supplied in general, accounting to his/her itinerary and route as designated by MEXT, with an economy-class airplane ticket from the international airport nearest to his/her home address* to Narita or Haneda International Airport. Expenses such as domestic transportation from his/her home address to the international airport, airport tax, airport usage fees, special taxes on travel, or inland transportation within Japan will NOT be supplied.
    2) Transportation from Japan: The grantee who returns to his/her home country within the fixed period after the expiration of his/her scholarship will be supplied, in general, upon application, with an economy-class airplane ticket for the travel from Narita or Haneda International Airport to the international airport nearest to his/her home address.
  • School Fees: Fees for matriculation and tuition will be paid by the Japanese government.
  • Accommodations:
    1) In principle, grantees may reside at residence halls provided by GRIPS.
    2) Private Boarding Houses or Apartment Houses: Those who cannot accommodate in the facilities described above will be arranged at private boarding houses or apartments recommended by the GRIPS Student Office.

  • Nationality: Applicants must be nationals of countries eligible for the YLP.
  • Age: Applicants must be, in principle, under 40 years of age, as on 2nd October, 2018 (i.e. born on or after 2 October 1977).
  • Academic Background: Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a recognized/accredited university or college, and have achieved shown excellent academic performance.
  • Work Experience: At least 3 years of full-time work experience in public administration (preferably 5 years or more).

JICA has been appointed to implement a master’s degree and internship program within the ABE Initiative framework developed for countries whose official requests have been approved by the Government of Japan. The objective of Master’s Degree and Internship Program of the ABE Initiative is to support young personnel who have the potential to contribute to the development of industries in Africa.

This program offers opportunities for young African personnel (hereafter referred to as “participants”) to study at master’s courses in Japanese universities and experience internships at Japanese enterprises. This program intends to foster excellent personnel who can recognize and understand the contexts of Japanese society and systems of Japanese enterprises so as to contribute Africa’s development in collaboration with Japanese private  3/12 sector. The expected outcome of the program is a network of potential contributors to the development of African industries who will also lead Japanese private sector to engage further in economic activities in/towards Africa.

Eligibility: Those who can apply for a scholarship are those who are enrolled or planning to enter the graduate school of the following designated universities in Japan as of April 1, 2018, among foreign students who intend to study social science or humanities, in Japanese We will make it possible for communication to be smooth, and that students are recognized as requiring economic assistance in their daily life and have excellent academic achievements. However, those who receive scholarship benefits exceeding ¥ 50,000 per month (¥ 600,000 per year) from government-sponsored international students and other organizations are excluded. As a rule of age as of April 1, 2018, and age 35 years old. Those who have a status of residence of “permanent residence” are not eligible.

Applications are invited for TAKASE Foundation International Student Scholarship Program for fall 2017 / spring 2018 at Saitama University in Japan. International students are eligible to apply for this scholarship program.

The aim of the scholarship is to privately finance international students to study in Japan.

World Customs Organization is offering a number of scholarships for the Master’s Degree Programme in Strategic Management and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) programme at the Aoyama Gakuin University.

The Strategic Management and Intellectual Property Rights Program (SMIPRP) is a 12-month master’s degree program at AGU’s Graduate School of Business and offers cutting-edge classes and practical management skills for future leaders, particularly in customs organizations around the world.
