The University of Canterbury offers the UC Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship to high-achieving undergraduate international students.

These scholarships were established in 2011 by the University of Canterbury to recognise and support top achieving students commencing an undergraduate degree programme at the University of Canterbury.

The scholarships shall be awarded to students who intend to begin their first year of an undergraduate degree programme at the University of Canterbury and who have completed or are completing a university entrance qualification.

Applications are open Hitachi-DST Scholarship Programme for a two-month training programme in Japan. South African citizens are eligible for this scholarship.

The  objective  of  this  programme  is  to  enhance  the  capacity  of  South  African  engineers  in  the  areas  of water  and  sanitation  treatment  and  service  in  support  of  South  Africa’s  social  infrastructure  development  programme.

South Africa’s Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Hitachi Ltd., a Japanese multinational corporation specialising in high-technology equipment including water, are inviting South African engineers to forward their applications for the 8th scholarship training  programme  offered  in  Japan.

English will be the common language used in most of the international conferences. Therefore, they strongly suggest that applicants have a good knowledge of English as a communication tool. A TOEFL score of 530 or above is preferred.

Applicants can only apply for a scholarship at University of Westminster once they have been offered either a conditional or unconditional place on your chosen course. The university cannot consider your application for a scholarship if you have not already made an application for admission and been successfully offered a place on a course.

Scholarship Type:

  • Full scholarships (which provide for tuition fee costs, living expenses, accommodation and flights to and from the UK)
  • Full tuition fee award scholarships (100% tuition fee award only)
  • Half tuition fee award scholarships (50% tuition fee award only)
  • Part tuition fee award scholarships (up to 50% tuition fee award only)

International undergraduate and postgraduate students can apply for a maximum of two types of scholarship.

UK/EU undergraduate students may apply for as many UK/EU undergraduate scholarships as they wish.

As a general rule of thumb for all applicants, the higher the value of the scholarship the more competitive the application process is. You are therefore advised to choose carefully which scholarship/s you apply for based on whether you meet the eligibility criteria and your true level of financial need.

You will only be considered for the scholarships you express an interest at the time of application so think carefully before you apply.

As well as completing the relevant Scholarship application form, you will need to provide the following supporting documentation:

  • A copy of the letter/email from the University of Westminster confirming your conditional or unconditional offer of a place on your chosen course.
  • An official copy of your transcript from your most recent/current academic study.
  • A reference letter written specifically in support of your scholarship application. This should be written by a previous tutor, professor, academic or employer (where relevant to your chosen degree course) and cannot be the same reference provided as part of your admission application.

Please note that certified translations of any supporting documents written in languages other than English must be provided. Also, please do not send your own personal copies or originals of documents as we are unable to return these to you.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. You must be classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes.
  2. You must be self-funded to receive this award, i.e. not funded by a research council, government, private enterprise, charity or any similar organisation.
  3. This scholarship cannot be awarded in conjunction with any other funding awards, either from the University of Sheffield or external sources.
  4. Your mode of attendance must be full time.
  5. You must begin your studies at the University of Sheffield in 2016. This scholarship cannot be deferred.
  6. Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully meeting any condition(s) attached to your offer before the deadline provided by the Admissions Service.
  7. Receipt of the scholarship is subject to successfully receiving a visa to study at the University in September 2016.

Value of Scholarship: There are four scholarships available to academically strong individuals from developing countries. Each scholarship offers the following:

  • A full tuition fee waiver for the period of study
  • Maintenance for University accommodation and a monthly stipend

Malaysian Government Scholarships 2016 for International Students

The Malaysian International Scholarship (MIS) is an initiative by the Malaysian Government to attract the best brain from around the world to pursue advanced academic studies in Malaysia. This scholarship aims to support Malaysian Government’s effort to attract, motivate and retain talented human capital from abroad.

Eligibility:

  • Not be more than 40 years (Postgraduate) and 45 years (Post-doctoral) of age during application.
  • Obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at Bachelor Degree Level for Masters Degree applicants and for PhD candidates must possess CGPA 3.5/4.0 or very good result at Masters degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. In addition, for post-doctoral programme, the selection will be evaluated based on the number of books produced, refereed/non refereed journals, portfolio and patent copyright. The Post-Doctoral candidate must have excellent reputation in research and possesses knowledge related to the research to be carried out.
  • Took one of the following English Language Proficiency Test not more than two years before the date of application. The list of tests and minimum scores required:
    1. IELTS Academic Test with a score of at least 6.5; or
    2. TOEFL paper-based test with a score of at least 580 or computer-based test with a score of at least 230 or internet-based test with a score at least 92.
    3. In excellent health condition and certified by a Certified Doctor/Medical Professional. The cost of medical examination is to be borne by the applicants.
    3. Wrote a proposal that is relevant to the field of studies.

Important Notes: Scholarships will be awarded in a number of separate rounds in February, April, June and August and successful applicants will be notified after each round. If you are not immediately successful in being awarded a scholarship, but meet the eligibility criteria, you will automatically be re-considered in the following allocation round alongside any new applications. The final allocation will be after the August deadline, with all remaining decisions notified then.

If you accept a Chancellor’s Masters Scholarship you may be required to undertake occasional promotional or support duties for the University of Sussex at times agreed between yourself and the University (e.g. providing copy for the prospectus or web page).
